We take pleasure in adding as much good, healthy and natural ingredients into our Ombars as possible. We take inspiration from nature - foods ought to taste great and be beneficial from health. If it doesn't meet these criteria, then why are we eating it? This is why we choose to add the whole fruit rather than just flavourings. We'll never add anything dodgy to our products, guaranteed.

Fruits and Berries

Our Secret Ingredients

Putting fruits in chocolate is nothing new, but it doesn't normally go much further than the odd raisin. What we like to do with Ombars is to combine the fruits with the chocolate - to actually infuse every bite with fruity flavours and enrich the chocolate with extra berries. The fruits and berries we use are all dried at low temperatures which allows the evaporation of nearly all the water contained inside the fruit: 10kg of fresh fruit, produces about 1-3kg of dehydrated fruit, with the same organoleptic (taste, smell and colour) qualities. So all the natural quality of the fruit is retained with no added colouring, flavouring or texturizing agents. Good eh?

The fruits and berries we use:

Acai

A Brazilian berry that grows on a palm tree in the Amazon rainforests. Dark purple in colour, this berry is renowned as being a nutritional powerhouse, with exceptionally rich antioxidant properties.

Blackcurrant

This tart small purple berry is responsible for the tangy berry flavour in the Ombar Acai, Blueberry and Blackcurrant bar. Our blackcurrant comes from either Canada or China.

Blueberry

Best known for being rich in antioxidants, our blueberry is very dark purple with a mellow flavour and is grown in Europe.

Cranberry

Our cranberries come from Ukraine. These wonderful, tart berries are deep red in colour and have been extensively studied and found to hold the key to a host beneficial effects on health.

Goji berry

Every now knows about goji berries and their reported anti-ageing properties. We offer a double-dosage of goji berries in our chocolate bar by using both infusing the chocolate with freeze-dried goji powder and throwing a handful of whole goji berries in too.

Mandarin

You could spend the whole day simply breathing in the delicious aroma of mandarin. To be honest, we decided to start adding mandarin to the cranberry to make this bar more delicious - the two balance eachother nicely, whereas cranberry can be a little challenging.

Strawberry

Strawberries add a beautiful, gentle flavour to the chocolate and the clouds of strawberry powder wafting around the chocolate factory have everyone on cloud nine.

Yang Mei

This is a Chinese berry that looks a little like a raspberry, but is much more tangy. The berries are a favourite in China and find their way into all kinds of culinery creations. Again, we like to enrich our chocolate with this antioxidant-rich berry in dried, powdered form.
